چکیده

Background: In cerebral palsy, importance must be given on effective and efficient walking. 30 subjects; 16 males 14 females (mean age 6.5 year) of spastic palsy with knee hyperextension ankle equines were included in this study fitted bilateral moldedhinged SKAFO pair shoes. Methods: Observational gait analysis by video recording was performed parameters 10 m walk test angle at mid stance using goniometer standing position recorded bracing non-bracing conditions. Results: The orthosis controlled not restricting normal flexion extension moment smooth transition motion. There significant improvement step length; stride length as well midstance (with orthosis) but velocity cadence reduced compared to bare foot walking. Conclusions: A stable, natural pattern found.

A comparison of gait with solid and hinged ankle-foot orthoses in children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy.

This study compared the effects of solid and hinged ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) on the gait of children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (CP) who ambulate with excessive ankle plantar flexion during stance. Twelve children with spastic diplegic CP wore no AFOs for an initial 2-week period, solid AFOs for 1 month, no AFOs for 2 weeks, and hinged AFOs for 1 month. Lower extremity muscle timing...

The Effects of Varying Ankle Foot Orthosis Stiffness on Gait in Children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy Who Walk with Excessive Knee Flexion

INTRODUCTION Rigid Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFOs) are commonly prescribed to counteract excessive knee flexion during the stance phase of gait in children with cerebral palsy (CP). While rigid AFOs may normalize knee kinematics and kinetics effectively, it has the disadvantage of impeding push-off power. A spring-like AFO may enhance push-off power, which may come at the cost of reducing the knee f...

The role of rigid and hinged polypropylene ankle-foot-orthoses in the management of cerebral palsy: a case study.

Ankle-foot orthoses are commonly used in the treatment of spastic cerebral palsy to hold the foot in a position conductive to a more functional gait. This study, utilizing quantitative biomechanical techniques, evaluates the effects of a rigid ankle-foot orthosis and a hinged ankle-foot orthosis on spastic cerebral palsy gait. The subject was a 4.5 year old female diagnosed as spastic diplegic ...

The effect of hinged ankle-foot orthoses on sit-to-stand transfer in children with spastic cerebral palsy.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effectiveness of the hinged ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) on sit-to-stand (STS) transfers in children with spastic cerebral palsy. DESIGN Before-after trial. SETTING University-affiliated hospital. PARTICIPANTS Nineteen spastic diplegic children (age range, 2-6 y). INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The transitional movement of STS was tested ...

Effect of Hinged Ankle-Foot Orthoses on Standing Balance Control in Children with Bilateral Spastic Cerebral Palsy

PURPOSE To identify the characteristics of static standing balance and its postural control mechanisms during quiet side-by-side standing and the changes in these measures whilst wearing hinged ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) in children with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy (CP). MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-one children with bilateral spastic CP (6.10 +/- 1.09 year-old) and 22 typically developi...
